Sat 30 June
We left Bangkok this
morning, back on emirates yay me like their planes, it made a nice change from
budget airasia flights, I love the movies. We entered Dubai on our british passports, so later bo to
our NZ ones for awhile. Our hotel
was only 4 train stops from the airport and was so easy to find, boy was it
roasty when we got out of aircon and walked maybe the 600 meters to our hotel,
so so hot I think the temperature was around 40 degrees. What a score when we checked in we got
upgraded from a standard apartment to a superior apartment!

We were stoked and
it was freaking massive so that was lovely to have all the space like our own
little house, AND a kitchen. So we
hit up the supermarket that was across the road and made a little feast for our
dinner and mooched watching tv.
Sun 1 July
Today we were wowed by
the 2 malls we went to, the Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates. The Dubai mall was the first stop we
made, and we did the aquarium (in the mall!) it slapped Kelly Tarltons in the face
that is for sure, and there was a little “zoo” that we also went through but it
was mainly creepy crawly things.

Ell had discovered before we left that there was a burger fuel in the mall, so we had that for lunch, daricious, and was also really cool to hear Kora playing while we were having lunch in the massive foreign food court.
We went back to the Dubai Mall after dinner to watch the famous fountain, it was beautiful
Mon 2 July
We hit up the Burj
Kalifa today, (the tallest building in the world people) the lift was super
fast up to the 124th floor that you view from. It was a bit cloudy so we could not see
that far out, but what we could see was impressive.

The train in Dubai is awesome, we got a pass that meant we
could do as much train/bus as we wanted all day for $5! Most excellent. We got on the train after with the
intention of seeing the palms, so got off at the marina and expected a bus to
be there (yea nah we didn’t do the research in this case) so walked to the
beach. It was so hot it was like pushing slowly through
the air as you walked, challenging much when I am wearing my non offending
muslim people outfit (full length skirt with scarf wrap) so sweating much. The beach was boiling, we splashed our
feet round for a bit then gapzd for some shade.
It was so hot we couldn’t be bothered getting out to the
palms so headed back to our hood for some quality time with the aircon.
Tues 3 July
Vegetated all day
today, and got picked up around
4ish for our Desert Safari whoop whoop.
There was us 2, our guide, and a Mexican family of 4 in our truck. The dune bashing was heaps of fun, the
2 little girls were in the back of the truck and every now and then you would
hear the thump of them bashing into the side of the truck when they weren’t holding
on properly (the evil child in me laughed when I heard this).

| Flat tyre, so photo opportunity |
There was heaps of tour trucks driving
round the dunes, I do wonder how many crashes they must have with all these
trucks zooming over dunes without knowing whats on the other side. The camp was really cute, I got some
henna done, we rode a camel (maybe the distance of 50 meters..) and some
sheisha and then the shows started.
It was neat watching the people doing their thing – yay for cultural
shows.
