Koh Samui, Island No.2

Sat 9 June
We left Koh Tao this morning, and got on the ferry to Koh Samui, this ferry was the business, it had comfy seats and readily available lifejackets! We had no idea where we were going to go once we got off the ferry so we stopped in a little cafĂ© that had free wifi, ordered a tomato and onion toastie, which took around 40 mins to get (1 lady and 4 customers she was not really on fire).  We taxied to Chaweng Beach and stayed in Sunny Guesthouse hostel, massive room/hot shower/air con so I was stoaked.  Ell saw a mcds sign when we were driving in so we set out to find it. The shops all pretty much sell the same things as each other, there is also lots of oil painting shops, they are pretty cool, I wanted to get one but we could not bargin them down enough so we had to spray and walk away.  The weekend night market had some delish food, ell got ribs so was stoaked and we had a dragonfruit shake – out of control deliciousness and such a bright purple!

Sun 10 June
This morning we had our elephant ride! It was neat! It was half an hour, and towards the end the guy jumped off and I was able to ride the elephant on top of the head, a bit like riding a horse with the rockingness.  At the river he had a drink and sprayed the water around, and did plops and a massive pee (the guide joked and said “like waterfall” – it seriously was).

Big poops

Give me banana

After the ride we walked up to Waterfall No.2, I think you can swim there but it was brown water so that creeped me out.

Waterfall No.2

see how I so shiny - that sheen is bugspray

We had the best Pad Thai for lunch when we got back to town, so so so good.

Found statues of mum and grandma...

Mon 11 June
Our hosts at Sunnys were ridiculously helpful (Penzy the manager seemed to know everyone /thing on the island) and had sweet hook ups with tours etc, and organised our ferry/bus into Surathani ( from where we were to catch out flight to Malaysia).  It was a flash bus that picked us up (no valuables in your backpack though because you still never know if there is an evil person in the baggage compartment going through the bags – this is a common scam).  The ferry was only about an hour which was sweet, and on the way in there was beautiful islands to look at.

These kids loved the noises from the ipod

We then jumped back on the bus and it took us into Surathani  it was a bit confusing however because the men working on the bus did not speak much English and we had stopped and they told some people to get off (you get a sticker so they know where to drop you off) and we had the same stickers as them, but all good in the end we got to the right place with the rest of the people.  I had to sit next to this fat thai child who first bit his nails and spat them out, then picked his nose, and also made disgusting noises with his mouth, I almost could have hit him he was so disgusting.  Penzy had also organised a hostel for the night, and transport to the airport the next morning.  Our hostel room was again massive, we dropped our bags and went out for some food, and to check out the night market – it was massive and so interesting just people watching.

For those interested in the bathrooms

sipping the dragonfruit shake - yum!

Tues 12 June
Our taxi arrived semi on time this morning (only 10mins late – everything  seems to run a bit slow here – apart from flights)  it was supposed to be a air con bus – it was a ute taxi that you sat on the back of, all good tho there was air flow!  We arrived at Surathani International airport with a few hours to kill before our flight, so booked our accommodation for Cambodia.  The flight to Malaysia was only just over an hour.  We got a double big mac and double chicken burger at mcds (yea boyee they were massive).

We checked into our airport hotel that we were staying in for about 12 hours, it was a freaking tiny tiny room, we could barely move around the bed – and it was freaking expensive too, but the bathroom was nice and the bed was actually comfortable so that was a relief.
